Jacob L. Loose Park

In Kansas City not to far from the Kansas City Plaza (which will probably be another blog posting) there is a beautiful park that stretches 75-acres called Loose Park. An historic battle in the civil war took place where the park is located now (http://www.kcmo.org/CKCMO/Depts/ParksandRecreation/LoosePark/index.htm check here for more history and general information about the park). While I was growing up I visited this park multiple times a year. There is a little pond where I remember feeding the ducks with bread I brought from home. A single day at the park brings many different events. Many high school seniors will take there senior photos at the park. People gather at the park for family reunions or just to meet up with an old friend. I would go to Loose Park just to play and be outside with my family. I have even at times seen weddings take place in the rose garden. The rose garden might be the only part of the park I visit every time I go to the park. It is a must see part of Kansas City when the flowers are in bloom. Before I could even remember my great uncle’s ashes were spread across the rose garden (I believe it is illegal to do that now but I believe at the time it was not but I am not certain for sure). As I grew older I have not visited the park as often as I would like but when you get older it is hard to do all the things that you enjoyed to do when you were a child. I have always felt close connections with parks. I enjoy just sitting in a park thinking, observe people and nature, and taking in some fresh air. Everywhere I go I look for a park so when I need a place to go outside and sit I know a place to go. I feel like people do not go to city parks very much nowadays because throughout the years I have notice less and less people visiting parks that I visit. My experiences at Loose Park are the reasons for my visits to parks, today. I will never forget the times I had at that park.

  1. I've been to Kansas City many times and it is truly a beautiful city. But it's those unique little sanctuaries that lie within or on the out-skirts of the city that contain the most beauty. I have been to parks like Loose Park, but have never visited Loose myself. However, I understand the peace, serenity, and beauty that these places in nature have to offer. I think that I why people love to gather at them, whether that may be for family gatherings, senior pictures, or for just a day full of fun. Yet, it makes me sad to think that places like Loose park and parks in my own town, are often overlooked by the glitz and glam of modern shopping centers that offer people tangible items for a price. But what can beat the beauty of nature? Nothing...that's what! Sure nature won't offer you a tangible good or product, but what you get from these places go beyond tangible objects; they offer a deeper meaning and self-worth. Best part about it...enjoying nature is free!

  2. I think that all of your blog posts are well thought out and on point. You have chosen a wide range of subjects which allow any reader to understand where you are coming from and also why you have chosen to create the blog. I think that just reviewing the posts you have made allows most folks to get a pretty good idea both where you are coming from and where you are going. I think the only improvement that could be made is to be a bit more personal . I say this because while your posts are very much about yourself they are a bit detached. This does not really take away from your posts as a whole but it is something to keep in mind if you pursue this sort of writing in the future. I especially like your appeal toward your upbringing and think that although it is hard to talk about where we are from as individuals it real adds a lot to our writing. I enjoyed having call with you and wish you luck in your future writing.
